The Department of Neonatology at Lutheran cares for newborn infants who need special care due to premature birth, low birth weight, birth defects, heart conditions, lung problems, or other life-threatening conditions. Babies with needing this type of care are placed In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Our NICU is equipped to care for the tiniest and most critically ill babies, offering the greatest range of neonatal services and support.
Lutheran Medical Center offers neonatology coverage by Onsite Neonatal Partners. With neonatologists, doctos who specialize in the the care of premature and sick newborns, the labor and delivery room becomes a haven for infants who need special care. Fewer infants need to be transferred out, allowing babies to remain in the facility, keeping infants and parents together in a stressful time.
